Wormertinger
As you could have read in Proef Conijn, I bought a glycol chiller to keep the fermenting process at a stable temperature. Up until now I only fermented beers that were around 20 degrees celsius. So that is room temperature, do you really need a glycol chiller then? Well yes, in the summer it can become quite warm in the attic where my installation is located. But the Wormertinger needed to ferment at 10 degrees celsius.

After doing a couple of different beer styles I wanted to do a real German beer. So that meant I needed to stick to the “Reinheitsgebot”.

Next to the IPA, Belgium Dubbel and NEIPA’s that I have brewed I decided it was time for a new beer style to try. So why not a triple? The challenges with a triple is that it’s quite high in the alcohol percentage. To achieve this you need a lot of fermentable sugars. These sugars are coming from the grains during the mashing process. Now the amount of grains that will fit in a kettle is limited. This is just basic physics but if you put in to much the mash process can stall.

I did 2 beers in my equipment so far the Proef Conijn and the Pure WoodWing. But I wanted to challenge myself with this new hobby of mine. Normally I just buy all the ingredients including the correct amount of yeast. But you can also buy yeast starters, these starters can be used to cultivate more yeast. It sounded like fun to try that out so I went online and bought the needed equipment.

2020 is a well known year for the Corona pandemic. Everything changed when the first persons were committed to the hospitals. Businesses shifted from working from the office to working from home. We thought that it was just for a short while but time progressed quickly, and before you know it we were 8 months in a lock down. When you are working from home and only see the colleagues you directly work with via video calls. You start to loose the connection with the other persons working for the same company. You don’t have the random opportunity to getting into a conversation with someone from marketing or finance.
Proef Conijn
After brewing Down to the rabbit hole and QuaranIPA it was time to step up my game! So I decided it was time to invest. After all, when you are brewing in batches of 5 liter a time you will only have around 13 a 14 bottles of beer. And when you share that with others not much is left… So, what are the options that you have as a home brewer?
QuaranIPA
So after my first beer it was time for a second one. Especially since the country was in a lock down during the corona pandemic. So there was not that much things that we could do. And since I already accumulated some equipment like pots and pans, I ordered a refill package at the Brouw Broeders.
Down to the rabbit hole
I got married in June 2019, and one of the gifts that I received was a package from Brouw Broeders. It’s a plastic bucket and contained enough grains and yeast to brew 5 liter IPA. I loved the fact that it seemed so simple. It’s really only 6 steps.
