Classy Rabbit
- 2 minutes read - 297 words.I did 2 beers in my equipment so far the Proef Conijn and the Pure WoodWing. But I wanted to challenge myself with this new hobby of mine. Normally I just buy all the ingredients including the correct amount of yeast. But you can also buy yeast starters, these starters can be used to cultivate more yeast. It sounded like fun to try that out so I went online and bought the needed equipment.
- Erlenmeyer 2L
- Magnetic Stirrer plate
So what you need to do is to create a small batch of wort. You can create this easily with some “dry malt extract” and boil it on the stove.
Afterwards, cool it down and add the yeast starter. Now it’s time to let the yeast do it’s job. So yeast loves oxygen and sugars. The sugars are in the DME (dry malt extract) and by using the magnetic stirring plate we constantly adding new oxygen. This will expedite the cultivation process of the yeast.
After a couple of days I poured the liquid into jars and placed them in the fridge. When you cool down a beer the yeast becomes dormant and will sink to the bottom. This means that you can decant the top layer and keep the higher concentration of yeast at the bottom. By repeating this steps a couple of time you will have your cultivated yeast ready to be used in your brew.
Classy Rabbit
The Classy Rabbit is a New England Indian Pale Ale, or also known as NEIPA. The name and label are inspired by the gentlemen culture of the english people. The beer itself was a great success one of the better beers I brewed so far. But also, way more work due to the cultivation process of the yeast.
