AWS User Group NL Meetup at Bynder
- 2 minutes read - 323 words.I recently created a pet project to combine proven technology from my professional life with my personal life. Over time it became harder to effectively manage your schedules for volunteering work in sporting clubs. Your name would just be printed in a schedule in the local sports paper. Due to legislation like AVD and GDPG this was no longer an option, and the alternatives are overlooked or even ignored. So I took on the challenge to build a solution that could address this using the power of AWS.
The slides lack all the content that I was sharing on the stage. So let me try and capture it here:
When you are a member of a sports club, there are certain chores that are expected from you. My membership to the KV de Zwetplassers started back in 1992. So it’s safe to say this club is very important for to me.
But in 2015 and 2018 I changed my reading material from AWS Blogs to simpler alternatives to read to my kids. So less time to spend on my club and the chores that might be expected of me.
In 2018 GDPR became a thing and the application of this European law AVG became something you need to adhere to. Before this we had a small magazine stating when you needed to do a bar shift, or a cleaning shift. Due to the AVG we were not allowed to publish PII (Personal Identifiable Information) without consent. The easy choice here was to stop publishing the schedules, so we stopped doing that. Making it harder to share these expectations with the members.
Then corona came, people got even more detached from the club. And when everything opened up again. People would not show up to their chores. Forgot it, didn’t know it, you name it…
So Let’s solve this by over-engineering this problem.
